Shimmer Gradient

Hey everyone!!  I have an event tomorrow night, so ... you guessed it!  Time to match the mani to the dress!!  I have a million things to do tomorrow, so I wanted to be sure my nails were ready!!

I started off with two coats of OPI The Spy Who Loved Me, a rich red shimmer with flashes of gold.  It is absolutely my new favorite red.  It's such a gorgeous color!!

Next, I grabbed a paper plate and placed one thick stripe of OPI The Spy Who Loved Me, another thick stripe of OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest just below it, and finally a thick stripe of Zoya Suri below that one.  I used a dotting tool to swirl the lines where the colors met to blend the shades a bit.

After taping off my fingers to cut down messy clean up time, I used a basic cosmetic wedge sponge and pressed it flat against the polish on the plate.  (I only pressed it down once.)

I then pressed the sponge against my nail, making sure it covered it entirely.  I then removed it from my nail, and dabbed a few more times to ensure proper color transfer.  I repeated these steps for each nail, and then followed with one coat of SV.
It really has a great shimmer out in the sun as well!!!

As always, here is the final mani with the dress, which is a fab little Ralph Lauren.  I almost added a little design in black to completely match, but I honestly couldn't bring myself to cover up any part of the gradient.

I am so happy with the end result!  The colors match the dress so perfectly!
I hope you enjoy it as well!

Happy Painting!

Colors: OPI The Spy Who Loved Me, OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest, Zoya Suri

    1. Oh I can't even lie - I had no idea they would blend as well as they did! I just grabbed the dress, and then searched for matching polish! I really think using shimmers helped out considerably! When I decide to try this with cremes, I full expect a "worst of Nail Polish Wars" award!!! HAHAHA

  15. I love this! I can never get gradients to work using this method, the polish NEVER transfers properly and I get to frustrated with it :( So I now have a kitchen sponge and I just dab on my gradient :)
